Abstract
Surgical videos are invaluable for teaching surgical techniques, informative audits & introspective critical analyses of surgical techniques. Drawback of current available recording and display systems is these are shot and projected in 2-dimensions and hence the perception of depth is lacking. Concept of depth in ophthalmic surgery is very important for safe surgery. Hence, teaching this concept of depth is a critical part of ophthalmic surgical skill transfer to residents and fellows. Limited availability of medical grade 3-D surgical video recording systems and prohibitive cost hinder their widespread use. We hereby explore innovative ways of recording ophthalmic surgery in 3-D at fraction of a cost of the available commercial systems. Instruction course will give delegates a complete guide to various ‘do it yourself’ 3-D recording solutions. The solutions discussed will enable teaching institutes to add a new dimension to impart effective surgical skill transfer to their students.
