Abstract
Asthenopia or eyestrain is a very common complaint with which a patient approaches you. Often a detailed refraction has been done and evaluation of eye finished. The patient comes back unsatisfied. There are lot of subtle issues to be looked into when prescribing glasses. Other than spectacle related issues are often overlooked. Accommodative problems in children are on such.In presbyopic patient, umpteen issues can cause eyestrain and needs detailed but basic examination skills. Convergence related problems are not uncommon in the active elderly patient and during a time when they retire to a life where near activity is increased, they have to be corrected. Other than convergence and accommodative issues there are muscle disorders which can produce eyestrain.It is not necessary that a strabismologist see these cases always. This I C addresses all these issues in a simple manner for the comprehensive ophthalmologist.
