Abstract

Simple limbal epithelial transplant (SLET) is a new, novel , safe and cost effective surgical treatment in cases of Limbal Stem Cell Deficiency(LSCD).A 11 year male child came with complain of sudden, painful,progressive diminution of vision post lime burn left eye.On examination DVA-3 metre,360degree gimbal ischaemia&macular corneal haze.Under GA autologous conj.epithelial gimbal tissue harvested from other eye, size 2mm by 4mm&kept in BSS.360 degree conj. peritomy done upto 3mm from limbus and corneal pannus(epi+superf.stroma)carefully removed.Fresh amniotic membrane graft from an uncomplicated LSCS with basement memb. side up secured over exposed cornea and conj. using haemostatic glue.Limbal tissue divided into 8pieces&placed in mid peripheral cornea in a circular pattern&glued&BCL applied.Post-op antibiotic+steroid given.Post op3months DVA-6/24.SLET proves to be a economical surgical technique in managing LSCD and needs more promotion in Indian scenario.
