Abstract
To ascertain and compare the aerosol generation, MK LASIK (flap creation using SBK Moria microkeratome and Hansatome microkeratome), FS LASIK, and SMILE were performed on goat eyes.Trypan blue tagged lubricating agents & balanced salt solution was used. Aerosol generation was documented on A4 size sheets based on the staining of the dye, the distance was manually measured with a scale & it was assessed using high speed 4K camera. It was maximum in MK LASIK flap creation using SBK Moria microkeratome followed by MK LASIK flap creation using Hansatome microkeratome.FS LASIK and SMILE did not seem to generate any visible aerosols. They seem to be safer than the MK LASIK with regards to aerosol generation. However, with precautionary measures, during any of the above procedures contact of surgeon and assistant from these aerosols can be avoided & thus, such measures have been advocated to mitigate aerosol spread during the various refractive procedures
