Abstract

An innovative low cost microscope designed using Intraocular lens(IOL) coupled with a smartphone. A 4cm x 2cm black chart paper was taken a 5mm hole was created in it. 4 rigid PMMA IOL’s of 30D each were arranged one above the other and then stuck onto the hole of the black chart paper with fevicol adhesive. The above arrangement was then stuck over the camera of the smartphone with a micropore/cellotape. A prepared slide of fungus/parasite/pathological lesions was taken and kept on top of a light source (torch). The smartphone with the arrangement was brought near the slide and the video/photo of the microorganism was recorded without the need of a compound microscope/digital microscope. This is a first of its kind instrument which will go a long way as an alternate to the conventional microscope.
