Abstract

Modern vitrectomy procedures have brought about significant improvement in the final visual outcome in patients with advanced proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Improved preoperative planning, vitreoretinal instrumentation, new surgical maneuvers as well as preoperative pharmacotherapy have resulted in positive outcomes even in severe cases of diabetic tractional retinal detachment. In this review we present innovative techniques and procedures tailored to individual patients to achieve satisfactory results.
