Abstract

Introduction: Posterior capsular rent (PCR) is a common complication in manual SICS and may even be sight threatening. PCR occurs both in hands of experienced senior surgeons and new surgeons. Additionally, certain types of cataract are prone to this complication.

Method: This video demonstrates the signs of PCR at different stages of surgery. Most common among these are at time of capsulorrhexis, forceful hydrodissection, nucleus prolapse into anterior chamber, cortical cleaning, IOL insertion. It is also to be noted that PCR chances are high in posterior subcapsular cataract and hypermature sclerotic cataracts

Conclusion: If posterior capsular rent at early stages has poorer outcome than during late stages but if recognised early it can be managed effectively.
