Abstract

OBJECTIVE- To present a case of 11 year old female child with swelling in medial aspect of right eye since 15 days with gradual increase in size since past 8 days. It was painless in nature.On examination,visual acuity was 6/6 in both eyes.Anterior segment examination of right eye showed a 1.1*0.8 cm red coloured mass near medical canthus which was freely mobile, non tender and transilluminant. Patient underwent excision of mass under general anaesthesia. Tissue was sent for histopathological examination and revealed features suggestive of pyogenic granuloma.

CONCLUSION- Since, pyogenic granuloma is a misnomer, as the lesion is neither pyogenic nor granulomatous, the vision is never affected.However such cases has to be operated for better cosmetic correction and to prevent malignant transformation.
