Abstract
We aim to discuss a rare presentation of an orbital aspergilloma. A 34-year-old male presented with painless swelling in the left lower lid with a history of trauma to face. Examination revealed a well-defined, non-tender, firm swelling measuring 1.5×1 cm in the left lower lid area with a vertical dystopia of 2mm. CT scan revealed a homogenously-enhancing hyperdense lesion eroding the maxillary sinus wall. A provisional diagnosis of traumatic haematinic cyst was made and an excision biopsy planned. Gross examination revealed a solid glistening white mass, 3X1.5cm. Histopathology revealed an aspergilloma. A confirmatory diagnosis of orbital aspergilloma was made and the patient started on antifungals. A repeat CT showed another sino-orbital mass. An endoscopic debridement was done and the patient is currently under regular follow-up. A fungal ball presenting as a traumatic orbital mass in an immunocompetent young male is a rare diagnosis.
