Abstract

Introduction : Phacoemulsification is a gold standard technique for cataract surgery. In expert hands even in most complicated cases also, phaco is advisable. But still disaster can always happen and conversion from phaco to either SICS or ECCE is a technique must learn. Here we are Going to discuss a few different trics and tips for a surgeon to safely convert the case and end the surgery as sutureless as promised to the patient.

Technique : 1. Conversion of the clear corneal tunnel to sclerocorneal tunnel for SICS

2. Changing the incision site

3. Change in Rhexis size appropriate to the nucleus grade

4. Appropriate IOL according to the scenario of the case

Concusion : In the era of quick recovery and no post OP astigmatism, converting phaco to ECCE is a night mare for both surgeon and patient. So learning and mastering a good SICS technique for conversion is a must for any phaco refractive surgeon now.
