Abstract
We did a retrospective review of 780 cases of phacotrabeculectomy done by a single surgeon over a span of 12 years. All cases had varying degrees of cataract with some type of glaucoma like POAG, PACG, steroid-induced, pseudoexfoliation, traumatic, etc. The surgical technique involved two-site phacotrabeculectomy with fornix-based flap, MMC used in sponges in suitable concentration, single apical fixed suture and one or two releasable side-sutures with water-tight conjunctival closure by box sutures. Temporal clear-corneal incision was used and foldable IOL of different types were implanted. Follow-up period ranged from 1 year to 12 years at intervals of four months. More than 50 percent of patients had long-term IOP less than 20 mm Hg without any anti-glaucoma medication. Eight patients required resurgery for uncontrolled IOP on medication, out of which six patients needed trabeculectomy with MMC and two patients neded Ahmed glaucoma valve.
