Abstract

Introduction- Acremonium are filamentous fungi. These are opportunistic pathogens, they do not usually cause corneal ulcers. Acremonium keratitis following herpetic eye disease has rarely been reported.

 Material & Method- 65 years male  with pain, diminution  of  vision, redness foreign‑body sensation and watering for 1 month. He had history of herpetic eye disease 3 years ago & had cataract surgery 2 years back .Through Slit lamp examination, Corneal scrapping with aseptic precautions,Gram & KOH staining, culture on Blood, MacConkey, SDA agar were done.

 

Results- Corneal scrapings on KOH mount & Gram stain showed fungal elements. Acremonium colony revealed on SDA agar & lactophenol blue mount. There was a significant reduction in size of the infiltrate at 2  weeks with the disappearance of hypopyon. No recurrence noted at 4 months follow‑up.
