Abstract
Purpose:To identify the aetiology, prognostic factors and visual outcome of patients with globe rupture. Methods:A retrospective review of 66 cases of globe rupture .Demographics, initial visual acuity (VA), extent of injury,OcularTrauma Score (OTS),postop complications and final VA were recorded. Results:Fifty patients were male with mean age 37.24.Mean fallow up was12.86M.Commonest aetiology was RTA(37.79%),work related injury(34.85%) and physical assault(30.30%).Initial VA was <6/60-FC,HM-PL,& No PL in 31.81%,51.51% and19.70% eyes respectively.Maximum cases fall in Zone II(42.42%) & Zone-III(48.48%)injury.9.09% patient had IOFB,31.81% had OTS-I(<45).The visual outcome was significantly associated with initial VA(p<0.003),Zone of injury(p<0.001),intraocular haemorrhage (p<0.001)&OTS(p<0.001).Conclusion:Rupture globe is a common occurrence after RTA, Fall and physical assault.Initial VA-NPL,Zone-III injury and low OTS are significant prognostic factors may be helpful during counselling.
