Abstract
Aim
To compare intraoperative wavefront aberrometry(IWA) vs conventional IOL power calculation in pediatric eyes.
Method
36 eyes of 20 children <10 years of age undergoing surgery for congenital or developmental cataract were included. IOL power was calculated with modified Sanders-Retzlaff-Kraff II (SRK II) formula using axial length from A scan and keratometry from automated keratometer. IWA was obtained with the optiwave refractive analysis (ORA) system. Results Median age of the patients was 4 years. IOL was implanted on the basis of manual method with SRK II formula calculation and age appropriate under correction. ORA was recorded in 28 eyes out of 36. Mean difference of IOL power between manual method and ORA was 0.40 (-0.13 to 0.94), p value 0.13 (not significant). Manual (IOL-M) and IOL-ORA was within +/-0.5D in 35.7%, +/-2D in 85.8% and +/-2.5D in 100%. Conclusions IWA with the ORA system provides comparable results relative to conventional biometry in pediatric age group.
