Abstract
A retrospective case series of 11 eyes of 10 patients of peripheral ulcerative keratitis over a period of 8 months at a tertiary eye centre in Bangalore. Risk factors, clinical features, microbiological profile and treatment outcomes are discussed.
Results:
Three patients had a history of contact lens use, three patients had Meibomian gland dysfunction, two patients had hypothyroidism, one had Rheumatoid Arthritis. Out of ten patients, six patients had infectious etiology (corneal scraping was positive in five patients), four patients were non-infectious. All patients responded to the management and healed at the final follow up. One patient got infected after application of glue with bandage contact lens application which healed on subsequent antimicrobial therapy.
Conclusion:
Management of PUK requires a thorough clinical evaluation. An infectious cause should always be ruled out before advising any topical steroids.
