Abstract
Materials And Methods: This study was carried out in the Department of Ophthalmology of a tertiary care centre. The duration of this study was one year starting from March ‘2019 to February ‘2020. This hospital-based study included 100 middle-aged type 2 diabetic persons with normal renal function and presented with Heart Failure. Diabetic retinopathy signs were graded with the help of indirect ophthalmoscopy.
Results: Among the 100 patients of diabetes and heart failure 42 had some form retinopathy with or without macular edema.
Conclusions: The presence of diabetic retinopathy signifies an excess risk of HF, independent of known risk factors. This further
supports a contribution of microvascular disease to the development of HF in people with diabetes
