Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is considered as a fourth industrial revolution, where intelligent machines are designed to replicate human behaviour. Machine learning (ML) is a type of AI, requires large volumes of input but an expert opinion to derive the output. It is used for Medical Diagnosis, improving patient outcomes. In ophthalmology, software such as Netra Ai, Retinal AI can diagnose retinal diseases like ARMD, DR, ROP, Glaucoma, intraocular lens power calculations, myopia prediction, visual field analysis and reconstructive surgeries at a cost-effective approach. Useful for screening camps & teleophthalmology. AI can also predict adverse cardiac events by using anatomical features of the retinal image.AI and ML is a powerful tool, which intensifies the clinician skill. AI can be applied to virtual clinics and teleophthalmology to decrease onward referrals to higher centers. In the future, many newer fundus cameras and OCT machines may be incorporated with inbuilt AI software.
