Abstract
Aim: To determine visual improvement in patients with EON. Design:Retrospective observational study. Materials and methods:30 patients with EON were studied. Visual acuity, colour vision, central fields, contrast sensitivity, VEP were done. Duration of ATT, duration between onset of defective vision and stopping of ethambutol were noted. Results: Mean age of the study population was 54.23 ranging from 23 to 78 with males (60%) and females (40%).VEP of all patients showed reduced amplitude. 56.7% (17) had vision improvement after stopping Ethambutol. Median duration from the onset of defective vision to stopping of drug among those who showed vision improvement was 4 weeks. Vision improvement was better among those who took ATT for lesser duration. Those who presented with hyperemic disc or normal disc had visual improvement than those with temporal optic disc pallor. Conclusion: Early diagnosis of EON and timely replacement of Ethambutol with alternate drug has good visual prognosis.
