Abstract
AIM- To present 5 years’ data on clinical profile and treatment outcomes of orbital TB in non-HIV patients.
METHODS- In a retrospective review, 123 patients of orbital TB were selected having continuous 5 years’ follow-up. ELISA was done to select seronegative HIV patients. Orbital TB was diagnosed on clinico-radio-pathological basis. Defaulters were excluded. Results were statistically analysed using paired T test.
RESULTS- Periocular mass was most common presentation. Mantoux test was positive in all patients while histopathology and CB-NAAT were positive in all isolated samples. All patients were treated with ATT as per DOTS Category I protocol. Follow-up was monthly till disease remission, then three and six monthly. All patients had clinical resolution at 3.6 weeks following start of ATT. No recurrences were observed. (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION- The study establishes DOTS Category I treatment as an effective therapeutic treatment protocol for orbital TB in non-HIV infected patients.
