Abstract
PURPOSE: To report the outcome of topical Mitomycin C(MMC) as primary treatment for OSSN.MATERIALS& METHODS:12 eyes of 12 patients with OSSN were included in the study.Treatment comprised of topical MMC 0.04% 4 times a day,for 4 days a week for 4 weeks.Patients were followed up every week to look for clinical signs of regression of lesion and complications of MMC.Those who did not show complete regression were taken up for surgical excision.Efficacy of MMC was measured in terms of clinical cure and recurrence of OSSN.RESULTS:Average age was 45.28 years.68% of the patients showed complete tumor regression with topical MMC alone.Surgical excision was required in tumours of size>10mm.No recurrence was noted in 6 months follow up.The most common complication of topical MMC was ocular allergy.CONCLUSION: MMC can be used as primary treatment in all cases of OSSN. While smaller lesions resolved completely, larger lesions reduced in size with MMC thereby allowing limited surgical excision.
