Abstract

The most common site for intraocular metastasis is choroid, owing to the abundant vascular supply, most common primaries being breast cancer(40-50%) in females and lung cancer(21-29%) in males. Bilateral, multifocal metastasis is often secondary to breast cancer whereas unilateral, unifocal are more commonly found with lung cancer. We report a case of vision loss in a 63-year-old male, which on evaluation was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer.

Once considered a rare entity, choroidal metastases are now considered the most common intraocular malignancy in the adult population. In a review of patients dying from the malignancy, 8% displayed choroidal metastases on autopsy. Most ocular metastases go undetected unless they affect the vision or cause proptosis. Choroidal metastases tend to become apparent late in the course of malignancy and are associated with disseminated disease and poor prognosis.
