Abstract
AIM: To evaluate the clinical profile of posterior segment pathology following blunt ocular trauma. Methods: A cross sectional observational hospital based study over a period of 2 years. Patients having history of non penetrating blunt ocular trauma to eye were included. Detailed clinical history, evaluation &examination with imaging was done.Result: Of 282cases,commonest was RTA,n=124 (43.9%),followed by fight & sports injury, commonest age group affected 31-45yrs(29.07%).Out of 282 cases, 32.62%had posterior segment pathology.Vitreoushaemorrhage was commonest(30.43%) Other common pathologies include RD, traumatic macular hole, commotio retinae & choroidal detachment. Conclusion:Posterior segment pathology in blunt ocular trauma is mostly responsible for visual impairment. So every case of blunt ocular trauma should be evaluated for posterior segment pathologies.Proper diagnosis and timely intervention can prevent sight threatening consequences.
