Abstract
Purpose: To report diverse ocular manifestations occurring in Induction phase of AML. Method: Case series of 3 female patients with AML receiving Induction phase of chemotherapy, who were evaluated for their ocular complaints & treated accordingly with appropriate topical & systemic antibiotics, laser hyaloidotomy, G-CSF administration and platelet transfusion. Results & Discussion: The patients had secondary leukemic manifestations like preseptal cellulitis with subconjunctival hemorrhage, vitreous & retinal hemorrhages. Cyto-reductive therapy in induction phase while killing leukemic cells, also suppresses normal cell lines resulting in related ocular & systemic complications. Conclusion: AML Induction therapy exposes patients to various adverse events, with significant ocular & systemic morbidity. All patients of AML must ideally have baseline ocular assessment prior to induction therapy & frequent follow up thereafter for timely referral to avoid grave systemic complications.
