Abstract
Pahariyas are tribes living on the hills of santhal paragana ( Jharkhand) .The number of this tribal population is declining due to malnutrition, malaria, and poor socio econnmic condition . A sample survey was done to assess the ocular problem of this tribe .
METHODS
A community based cross sectional study done in paharia tribe (Jharkhand) .750 paharias were examined during different visits in 2019 along with a optometrist . A general and ocular check up was done. Serious ocular problems were referred to nearby eye hospital
RESULT
Out of 750 patients examined at their residence on hill top,190 (25.33%) had ocular problem. The most common was refractive error 65 patients (34.21%) followed by xerosis 55(28.9%)which was probably due to malnutrition . Conjunctivitis 19(10%), bitot spots 15(7.89%), corneal ulcer11(5.78%) were other important findings.
With improvement in their health and hygine along with early eye check can prevent many ocular problems .
