Abstract
Neurocysticercosis is the most common parasitic disease affecting the central nervous system caused by the larval form of Taenia solium(cysticercosis cellulosae)We report a case of isolated bilateral sixth nerve palsy secondary to neurocysticercosis involving the dorsal pons. A 29 year old man with the history of sudden onset of double vision for 1 week . His best corrected visual acuity was 6/6, with the both eye abduction restriction . Fundus examination was normal MRI showed a ring enhancing solitary calcified lesion with the perllesional odema in the dorsal pons suggestive of calcified stage of cysticercosis. patient was started on inj dexamethasone 8 mg for 1 week along with t. Albendazole 400 mg bd for 1 month. Patient was asymptomatic at the end of treatment. This case has been taken as a rare presentation of neurocysticercosis causing bilateral sixth nerve palsy. Early diagnosis and treatment is essential in order to minimize the risk of life threatening complications.
