Abstract
This was a population-based,cross-sectional study to explore the relationship between chronic kidney disease (CKD) and diabetic retinopathy (DR) in a representative population of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients in a Diabetic centre in Tamilnadu.100 patients(M:F 83:17) with a mean duration of type 2 diabetes of 14 years with recorded ophthalmologic and renal functions (eGFR and Urine Albumin creatinine ratio)examinations for 12 months were included. The descriptive statistical analysis, Chi-square test, Fisher Exact test were used to find the association of study parameters. The mean age was 63 years,DM duration was 14 years. The prevalence for any DR is 39%,NPDR(33%)and PDR(6%).The proportion of DR is relatively higher in A/C ratio with 151-300 compared 30-150 i.e (41.7% vs 38.6%),(P=0.016).Higher A/C ratio is significantly increasing across the Stages of eGFR values with a significant association (P=0.002).Microalbuminuria has a greater impact on predicting the progression of DR.
