Abstract
Aim:To identify the insertion of previously operated extraocular muscles using anterior segment swept source(SS) optical coherence tomography(AS-OCT).
Method:5 eyes(4 patients) with residual/consecutive eso/exotropia with no documents of previous surgery, underwent imaging of the lateral and medial recti of the operated eye on a Casia 2 SS AS-OCT. Distance between the anterior chamber angle and muscle insertion was measured. Patients underwent additional surgery for the residual/consecutive strabismus. Intraoperative caliper measurement of the distance between the limbus and the insertion of the muscle planned for surgery was compared to ASOCT values.
Result: ASOCT identified the insertion of muscles in 4 eyes. The LR in one eye was missed because it was inserted beyond the equator. All ASOCT readings obtained were within 2 mm of intraop values.
Conclusion:We found ASOCT useful in planning a 2nd surgery in previously operated patients, especially when surgical details are unavailable.
