Abstract
Objectives- To compare diurnal intraocular pressure (IOP) fluctuation, self-measured by iCare Home Tonometer (HT) with Goldmann Applanation Tonometer (GAT) and to compare the ease of use of iCare HT by video versus verbal instruction training.
Method- Patients of primary open angle glaucoma/normal tension glaucoma/ocular hypertension were recruited and randomly assigned to video/verbal instruction of use of iCare HT. IOP was measured by patients using iCare HT, 15 minutes of each GAT recordings, by a glaucoma consultant/senior fellow during office hours.
Results- 50 patients were enrolled. IOP measured by both GAT and iCare HT showed positive correlation between the two (P- value <0.001). Student T test showed no statistically significant difference between readings obtained by video versus verbal training of iCare HT (P-value >0.05).
Conclusion- iCare HT is as reliable as GAT and can be reliably used for home monitoring of IOP by patients themselves.
