Abstract
Aim: To identify per-operative factors for success of trabeculectomy in primary glaucoma.
Method: Conjunctiva and Tenon’s status, amount of cautery, MMC use, thickness of sclera and scleral flap, edge cautery, making and width of ostium and position of conjunctival suture line were evaluated by 5 ophthalmologists in surgical videos for 105 eyes with primary glaucoma followed for more than 1 year. Cox hazard regression analysis was performed to identify factors for successful surgery and verified with KM survival analysis.
Result: Spongy Tenon’s, mild cautery, making ostium with blade and ostium width of 1/3 base of flap were significant (p<0.05) in backward stepwise regression analysis. These were verified with KM survival analysis with Log-rank test where mild cautery and creation of ostium with blade were significant (p<0.05) .
Conclusion: Minimal cautery and creation of ostium with blade are the significant per-operative factors for successful trabeculectomy in primary glaucoma.
