Abstract

Background – Corneal blindness is a priority condition under the national programme for control of blindness and an important cause of avoidable blindness. The aim of this study is to compare awareness between the medical and Paramedical students in Rajasthan and to explore ways to involve medical community and other sectors.

Materials and methods – Students following their respective courses during Jan to Aug 2019 participated in the study. Out of 584 students, 213 were medical and 371 were paramedical students. The study started with initial clarification of questions followed by administration of pretest and semistructured questionnaire with informed consent.

Result – All the students were aware of eye donation awareness on various parameters and is higher among the medical students.

Conclusion – Creation of awareness on eye donation can improve current statistics. Eye banks and medical college can be linked up for advocacy programme. Education on organ donation is must for society.
