Abstract
There are currently more than 2 billion persons with disabilities (PwDs) in the world, that is 37.5% of the world’s population, out of which around 20% live in India. There is still a lack of comprehensive, cross-culturally validated tools to identify persons facing activity limitations and functioning difficulties in these settings. A cross-sectional study is planned among 2000 adults in Delhi to validate MDS tool in an Indian sample of adults. The Brief WHO-MDS composed of 38 items was developed by WHO and UNDP in collaboration with the Washington Group on Disability Statistics. Internal consistency for the total MDS-38 is done using a raw and standardized Cronbach’s Alpha and within each domain using a standardized Cronbach’s Alpha. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) using principal axis factoring (PAF) will evaluate the lowest number of factors to account for the common variance among the questions in the tool. Good internal consistency is indicated by Cronbach’s Alpha > 0.8.
