Abstract

We analysed morphometric changes occurring in the anterior chamber angle in superior and inferior quadrants after phacoemulsification and manual small incision cataract surgery(SICS). 60 Patients were enrolled out of which 30 underwent phacoemulsification(group A) and 30 underwent SICS(group B), performed by single surgeon. Anterior segment optical coherence tomography parameters included were central Anterior chamber depth (ACD), anterior chamber angle (ACA), angle opening distance (AOD), trabecular iris surface area (TISA). These were measured pre and post-operatively at 1 and 6 weeks. In each group, statistically significant increase(p<0.05) was noted in all parameters in both quadrants at the two follow-ups. There was no statistically significant difference in the parameters of the two groups. Thus, cataract surgery can provide a safe adjunctive modality for increasing angle parameters. Also, technique of cataract surgery does not seem to influence the change occurring in the angle
