Abstract
PURPOSE-The present study aimed to evaluate the impact of decrease in exposure time of secondhand smoke from wood &dry dung fuel on number of female patients of pterygium of rural areas of North Bihar, after commencement of ujjwala yojana in 2016,which provides free LPG connections to women of BPL families.
METHOD-In 2019,a detailed history regarding exposure time per day of secondhand smoke were enquired from all patients of pterygium who visited opd.
The number of male & female patients were compared with hospital data of a year before ujjwala yojana,2015.
RESULTS-Total number of male & female patients of pterygium in 2019 were 198&150 where as in year 2015 -210&182 respectively.
Group data of 2019 revealed that incidence of pterygium decreases due to less exposure time on cooking with gas.
CONCLUSION-After 3years of ujjwala yojana a significant decline is noted in number of female patients (17.58%)of pterygium as compared to males(5.7%)due to less exposure time on cooking with gas.
