Abstract
Myiasis is the invasion of living animal tissue by fly larvae(maggots). The invasive larvae almost invariably cause massive destruction of orbital tissue accompanied by marked inflammatory reactions and secondary bacterial infections. • We report a case of a 60yr old female presented with chief complains of pain and bleeding from right eye.The patient gave a history of a gradually increasing mass from the lower lid, of 1year duration. On histopathology it was diagnosed as Basal cell carcinoma and was treated by wide excision of the mass along with evisceration elsewhere. On examination Multiple maggots were seen infesting the orbital cavity. Orbit was completely destroyed and necrotized. Lids could not be visualized and surrounding structures were inflamed and tender. The larvae were manually removed after immobilizing them with 4% xylocaine and by turpentine oil painting and debridement of necrotic tissue was done followed by exenteration.
