Abstract
Methods: prospective study of 40 patients with LIG visiting a tertiary care centre from June 2019 to February 2020 was done. Complete eye examination with visual acuity and IOP was done before and after cataract surgery. Prevalence of sex, age & duration between appearance of symptoms and surgery were analyzed.
Results: LIG is more common in females than males (60:40%). Of 40 cases of LIG, 36 (85%) were phacomorphic while 6 (15%) cases were phacolytic. After SICS, visual acuity was 6/60 or worse in 16 of 40 cases (40%). IOP ranged 25-58mm Hg preoperatively and 14-24mm Hg postoperatively. Duration between symptoms and surgery ranged from 2 weeks-6 months.
Conclusion: Study thus reveals importance of early diagnosis and correction of visually disabling cataract. Both patient and cataract surgeon must realize the risk of lens-induced glaucoma and poor prognosis of delayed intervention.
