Abstract
synopsis:It is a prospective randomized control study conducted on sample size of 50 (24 in small incision cataract surgery-groupA;26 in phacoemulsification-groupB) of age group 40-80years . After detailed examination and specular images patients randomized in 2 groups. After surgery at each follow up endothelial cell density(ECD) noted till 6weeks and compared with baseline values. Results: In group A; mean baseline ECD was 2597.7±142.67; at postoperative 6th week was 2362.58 ± 148.08(difference is 235.16 ± 65.66). In group B mean baseline ECD was 2615.65 ± 215.49; at postoperative 6thweek was 2389.58 ± 216.87(difference is 226.07 ± 35.88). So the loss of ECD in group A was 9.05% and in groupB 8.64%.The difference of ECD from baseline to postoperative 6th week in both the groups was not significant (p value-0.33).Conclusion: There is no significant difference in corneal endothelial cell loss between Small incision cataract surgery and phacoemulsification in diabetic patients.
