Abstract
In this prospective study, 145 phaco surgery cases done by trainee fellows independently where grouped according to surgical risks and were analysed for complications intraoperative and post-operative upto 1 month. Fellows who have done 25 hrs of wet lab training and 20 phaco surgeries under supervision were only included.
RESULT- Overall complication rate for all surgeries performed by fellows was 6.89%. Out of these complications SURGICAL APHAKIA was 0.7%, PCR+ VITREOUS LOSS 3.4%, PHACO TO SICS 0.7% and REQUIRING RESURGERY was 2.1% respectively.
CONCLUSION- Complication rates of surgeries performed by fellows was 6.89%.
Similar rates are found in other studies also. So its advisable to introduce phaco surgery learning early in residency training.
