Abstract

AIM: To compare visual outcome and complications of PHACO versus MSICS in patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome who underwent cataract surgery.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: Prospective study over a period of 1 year included 100 eyes of 100 patients which were divided into two groups of 50 each as Group-A who underwent PHACO and group-B who underwent MSICS, by a single surgeon.Cases were followed up on day 1,7, 30, 90,180 post-operatively.

RESULT: In patients who underwent MSICS, complications were significantly higher in intra-operative (p=0.03) and early post-operative period (p=0.04) but not in late post-operative period (p=0.26).Mean uncorrected distant visual acuity on POD-1,7,30 was significant (better in Group-A, p<0.05) whereas mean corrected distant visual acuity on POD-30 ,90,180 showed no significant difference between two groups.
