Abstract
AIM: To study the etiology, clinical features, investigation, management & outcome in patients with endogenous endophthalmitis.
METHODS: Retrospective interventional study on 48 eyes of 42 patients treated for endogenous endophthalmitis were evaluated from 2010-2020.Systemic risk factors, exact etiology, management, anatomical & functional outcome were analysed.
RESULTS: Mean age of presentation was 45.9 years.Bilateral endogenous endophthalmitis in 14.2% cases. Right eye was involved in 52% cases. Most common systemic infection was UTI. Among all cases 66.6% were bacterial,22.9% were fungal and 10.4% were Mixed infection.Common complications were pthisis bulbi(5), Retinal detachment(4), complicated cataract(4) & Choroidal detachment(3).Anatomical success was 62.7% and Functional success of 58.1%.
CONCLUSION: Bacterial etiology was the commonest cause of endogenous entophthalmitis. Early recognition, accurate diagnosis & appropriate treatment resulted in good visual outcome
