Abstract
We report a case of 35year old male who presented to us in Uvea clinic with persistent bilateral blurring of vision, pain & photophobia. He had bilateral colored iris implants solely for cosmetic reasons done elsewhere 3 years back. Postimplantation he developed uveitis, corneal decompensation and ocular hypertension resulting in the need for explantation of the implants which was done in the same hospital. One week Post-explantation, he presented to us with the above symptoms. Examination showed BCVA of 2/60 in both eyes with raised IOP even with medical therapy. Anterior segment examination showed Intercalary staphyloma, iritis, multiple iris defects with eccentric pupil on both eyes. Right eye fundus could not be visualized. Left eye showed end stage glaucomatous optic neuropathy. This case report demonstrates the devastating consequences of a device that is used for cosmetic purposes which has been neither formally evaluated in clinical trials nor reviewed by a regulatory agency.
