Abstract
Method : A 70 years hypertensive female presented with painless, gradual diminution of vision in left eye(L/E) for 10 years. She had history of cataract surgery in right eye(R/E). Distance visual acuity(VA) was 6/36 in R/E, hand movement with projection of rays accurate in L/E. Intraocular pressure was 12mm Hg in R/E, 15mm Hg in L/E . Slit-lamp examination showed B/L PXF with PCIOL in R/E and nuclear sclerosis grade 2 in L/E. Gonioscopy showed open angles. Fundus showed features of retinitis pigmentosa. OCT showed central macular thickness of 123µ in R/E, 176µ in L/E. RNFL thickness in R/E showed thinning in 2 quadrants. She underwent cataract surgery.
Result : Post-operative best corrected VA was 6/24 in L/E.
Conclusion : RP with B/L PXF syndrome and cataract is rare. Prompt diagnosis and early surgical intervention has good visual outcome in such cases.
