Abstract
Purpose :- To find a better alternative for topical steroid which can prevent the graft rejection in the initial post-operative period post TPK for fungal keratitis.
Methods: – Prospective, interventional study. Patients operated for Fungal keratitis by therapeutic penetrating keratoplasty were enrolled and randomised into group A, Group B and Group C. Group A patients were started on topical Tacrolimus 0.3%, Group B on topical Cyclosporine, and Group C on placebo.. Patients were followed up on post-operative day 1,7,30,60 and 90 days.
Result: – 60 patients were enrolled and 20 patients were randomised in each group A, B and C. Patients with clear grafts were 60% in Group A, 40% in Group B and 35% in Group C. The rejection episodes, vascularisation and chances of secondary glaucoma were found to be less in group A.
Conclusion: – Topical tacrolimus was found to be a better alternative compared to topical steroid after Therapeutic Penetrating keratoplasty done for fungal keratitis.
