Abstract

The vital role of the ophthalmologist in the diagnosis of brain tumors was emphasized by ‘Cushings’ when he called the optic chiasm “the crossroads” where the neurologist, the ophthalmologist, and the neurosurgeon meet.

Case – A 27 year old male presented to Ophthalmology OPD with chief complaints of headache on and off since 1 year and blurring of vision since 1 month.

All routine Ophthalmological examinations and perimetry was done.

Findings-Fundus examination showed B/L Papillodema and Perimetry suggested Right Homonymous Hemianopia.

Approach- Patient was refered to Neuro-surgery with high suspicion of a Neuro-pathology. His MRI-Brain showed a presence of a lesion in the left Occipital lobe. Craniotomy and excision of the tumour was done successfully ,which was histopathologically proved to be a Grade II Oligodendroglioma.

Conclusion- Meticulous examination and investigations by the Ophthalmologist can lead to early detection of ICSOL
