Dr. MINU M. MATHEN (M08325)
Abstract
This video based course will highlight the difficulties during phacoemulsification of difficult cataracts including posterior polar, soft, hard and mature cataracts, subluxations, small pupils, shallow anterior chambers, IFIS, compromised endothelium, high myopes, traumatic cataracts and post vitrectomised eyes. The modifications in techniques involved in managing the above situations will be described. The use of newer phacoemusification machines as well as the changes to be made in the parameters of standard phaco machines will also be detailed including microincision phaco and torsional technology to deal with the above situations. The use of capsule staining techniques, Capsular bag stabilization devices and customized chopping instruments will be demonstrated. The role of Femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery in the above difficult situations will be also be highlighted where the technical advantages and limitations of Femto phaco will be discussed,
