Abstract
In patients with subluxated or dislocated lenses or IOLs, ruptured capsules or zonular dialysis and aphakia with absent capsular support, it is a challenge to put a posterior chamber IOL. Sutured Scleral fixated IOLs suffer from disadvantages such as suture erosion/ breakage, prolonged surgical time and induced astigmatism. Novel techniques of IOL fixation into sclera with and without fibrin glue has gained popularity in the last few years in which the IOL haptics are tucked into scleral pockets created under scleral flaps 180 degrees away from each other. Reduced surgical time and use of same IOL are the other advantages. Modifications by various surgeons have helped to perfect this technique which is fast gaining popularity. This instruction course using live videos is aimed at introducing various scleral and iris fixation techniques. Long term results of this procedure and complications will also be discussed in this course
