Abstract
Common corneal pathologies are managed at the peripheral level by general ophthalmologists . These may be sight threatening and need to be managed on an emergency basis. Technically, these procedures may not be challenging but proper methodology and indications need to be reinforced. Application of tissue adhesives and bandage contact lens, anterior stromal puncture(ASP) , corneal scraping can be done in out patient department. Corneal tattooing ,amniotic membrane graft, tenons patch graft, pterygium excision with autograft + fibrin glue, EDTA chelation are OT procedures. Cataract and refractive surgeons may easily perform photo therapeutic keratectomies for superficial corneal opacities if a ware of indications and proper techniques.
All these procedures are provide cosmesis (tattooing), pain relief (ASP), diagnostic (scraping), vision improving (pterygium surgery), tectonic(TA+BCL) and can be safey done by a non cornea specialist with proper training.
