The Simcoe cannula for cortex aspiration has withstood the test of time despite the need to retain a constant pull over the plunger of the syringe. There is a need for repeated flushing and the vacuum is highly variable. This kindled us to design the Vacuum Assisted Cortex Removal which is simple, safe, economical and not dependent on expensive disposables. The initial phase has a controlled but dynamic vacuum which gradually decreases. Its simplicity, ease in sterilization, ability to release accidentally impacted tissue, machine and electricity independence makes it suitable for all. The liberty to hold the syringe freely in left hand allows beginners to concentrate on cortex aspiration. The larger volume of effective aspiration helps complete cortical clean-up in one go. No doubt, VCR is an economical, effective and novel change to the tradition and a small step forward towards comfort and safety.
