Abstract
Aim To present a new objective method of pupillary assessment & its documentation
Materials & methods Evaluation of pupil reactions are of paramount importance in ophthalmic & neuroophthalmic care The most commonly used subjective methods are inadequate being observer dependent & not amenable for use in teaching We used a commercially available portable infrared camera coupled with a smartphone as a light source for documenting & recording pupillary responses in various conditions
Results various abnormalities of pupillary light reactions thus recorded could be reviewed any time later as a video without the need for the patient’s presence. The same could also be used as an effective teaching device & will be a low cost device to diagnose & prognosticate in various pupillary disordersThis should serve as an alternative to existing expensive methods of pupillary assessment
