Abstract
This video aims to educate and emphasize on the events that might lead to iatrogenic iridodialysis in a Grade1 IFIS and how with timely interventions one can successfully complete phacoemulsification without further traumatizing the dialysed iris tissue. Repairing the iridodialysis thereafter, also emphases on the importance of retaining the anatomy and cosmesis in a complicated cataract surgery.
Use of sutures to close superior main wound (1st stitch) and stopping further iris prolapse, shifting temporal by the surgeon, use of intracameral adrenaline and high molecular weight viscoelastics to maintain pupillary size, use of iris retractors to keep iris from coming to the Phaco probe (2nd stitch), and finally iridodialysis sutures (3rd stitch), show how with appropriate and timely intervention, IFIS with iatrogenic dialysis can be managed , maintaining the visual, anatomical and cosmetic integrity of the eye, thus allowing us to conclude that ‘A stitch in time saves nine ‘.
