Abstract
Periorbital and eyelid scars usually result due to mechanical trauma, chemical injury or burn. It can manifest as lower eyelid retraction, ectropion or entropion depending on the state of the anterior and posterior lamella. Such scars on conspicuous areas of face can be aesthetically disfiguring and can even result in functional loss of eyelids. 5-FU a pyrimidine analogue with antimetabolite activity has been shown to inhibit collagen synthesis both in vitro and invivo. It has been unveiled that 5-FU administered intralesionally weekly or fortnightly to hypertrophic scars and keloids is effective in reducing the activity of fibroblasts. Four patients with periorbital scars were treated with intralesional 5- FU and the results were analysed and will be discussed.
